Most Blessed Virgin of Porto Salvo:
This feast is celebrated in Marina di Ragusa, the city's seaside resort, about 20km from the city itself.
It was originally celebrated by the town's fishermen and is truly one of the most characteristic festivities in
Ragusa's calendar, especially the procession of boats which takes place on August 15th. The statue of the
Virgin is placed on a fishing boat and leads a floating procession of all the boats of the port up and down the
coast around the town. The public then participate in the procession around the streets after the landing of the
statue. Again, apart from being a religious festival it has also become a tourist attraction because of the spectacle
itself and the firework display which closes the evening's celebrations.
