The food festivals or "sagre" are perfect occasions for the tourist to get to know the traditional products of
the area and to mix with the local people. At a "sagra" the local speciality is prepared on a grand scale in the streets
and squares of the town for all to enjoy. These festivals are really a celebration of age-old culinary and religious
traditions, handed down from one generation to the next over the centuries. They are a combination of the pleasure of
good food, drink and company with hope for the future.
There are numerous attractions at these festivals, from the exhibition of local arts, crafts and culinary delights
to traditional games, theatrical shows and folk concerts.
All towns boast their own speciality and so hold their own celebrations of their traditions. This allows the discerning
traveller to visit the different localities and try out all the local delicacies in all ways imaginable.
The lively local folklore, the specialities that just have to be tasted and the diversity of the Sicilian
countryside all combine to form an irresistible itinerary which allows the tourist to see some of the lesser known
corners of Sicily where they can find and taste the best of local produce.
